Project Description
To design an addition to an historic building that houses a history museum. The owner wanted the addition built using modern materials and methods for cost efficiency while also reflecting its historic surroundings.
Ames Associates conducted a review of the existing building and developed two schemes for the addition. Both reflect the proportions, style, and image of the original horse barn, and both would restore the estate to its original size while preserving the current structure of the carriage house and museum. To provide the owner with another option, we also proposed a third scheme for a freestanding building — a horse barn — near the original location.
