Shelly began her career after graduation from the University of Maine in a small firm in Bangor working on a variety of projects ranging from landfill closures, municipal road construction, and subdivision design to construction supervision. During those years she developed a deeper knowledge of the State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection regulations including Site Location of Development Act permitting and Natural Resources Protection Act permitting.

While at Ames Associates she worked on a wide array of projects including; residential subdivision design and permitting, Department of Environmental Protection, Site Location of Development and Natural Resources Protection permitting, roadway and parking lot design, and local site development plans for both revisions and new construction.   Concentrating on environmentally conscious site design, Shelly has built a solid relationship with Local and State regulatory agencies while keeping current with the ever changing environmental regulations in the State.
